Misc. (Guideline)

The following are general good practices and guidelines to follow while running a net.

1. Conduct priority calls first.
2. Ask relays for assistance as necessary. If Net Control or designated relays fail to contact a station, ask for assistance from any member checked into the net. Do not assume that if a station does not respond that it has left the net.
3. Try to minimize Net interruptions. It is your choice to take check-ins as they occur, or take at different intervals, but this interval should not exceed 20 check-ins on the work list. Take checkin information to include call sign, name, state, and OMISS number only and try to avoid other discussion. If the list is long, wait until the end of the list to give information to first time checkins.
4. Try not to overlook anyone. Use relays as necessary. Ensure any newcomers have received enough calls / numbers to apply for membership.
5. Net Controllers may run a worklist as many times as they deem productive, provided there’s not a scheduled net following or other requirement. See Band Coordinators for the band you are operating for any special circumstances that may exist. If none of these conditions exist, thereare no set lengths for OMISS nets to run. Use your best judgement.
6. When unusual circumstances arise (rare DX stations, states or counties, Net Control may establish a special call protocol for that station if they so choose.
7. Ultimately the Net Controller running the net oversees how the net operates within the rules that are provided, ensuring good operating practices and procedures.
